Niger State Committed to Constitutional Reform, Governor Umaru Bago Affirms.
In a resolute statement during the public hearing on the review of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State expressed his dedication to upholding the state’s constitutional responsibilities.
He emphasized the importance of approaching these responsibilities with patriotism, integrity, and foresight, particularly in supporting amendments that advocate for justice and protect the rights and dignity of all Nigerians.
The event, held in Minna for the North Central Zone and encompassing Niger, Kogi, and Kwara States, was organized by the House of Representatives.
Governor Bago, represented by Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, commended the National Assembly’s initiative as indicative of a commitment to inclusive governance, participatory democracy, and institutional reforms aimed at nation-building.
Bago highlighted the significance of the public hearing as a platform for diverse stakeholders to voice their concerns and aspirations, ultimately contributing to a fairer and more responsive constitutional framework.
He urged the National Assembly to ensure that the perspectives of residents from Niger, Kogi, and Kwara States are accurately represented in the amendment process.
The session also featured remarks from Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, Chairman of the North Central Centre A of the House Committee on Constitutional Review and Deputy Majority Leader.
He emphasized that engaging Nigerians in this amendment process is crucial for fostering national unity, with the outcomes poised to significantly shape the country’s trajectory.
Supportive messages were also delivered by representatives from Kogi State and traditional leaders, who collectively urged the National Assembly to consider all perspectives to ensure the development of a constitution that prioritizes the needs and aspirations of the people.
