Encomium : Prof. Baji Reaffirms Commitment to Community Development.

The newly appointed Sarkin Yaki of Baji and Director of the Institute of Continuing Education and e-Learning (ICEeL) at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), Associate Professor Mohammed Ibrahim Baji, has reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing support for his community and humanity at large.
In an interview with journalists in his hometown, following his bestowal of the traditional title of Sarkin Yaki (Mai Yaki) of Baji in the Gurara local government area of Niger State, he promised not to betray the confidence placed in him.
Professor Baji emphasized that he has been challenged to take on greater responsibilities, asserting that his leadership extends beyond merely leading; it encompasses fighting against all forms of subjugation, injustice, and neglect of welfare for the people.
The Professor of Guardian Psychology at IBBUL urged the community to remain united and promote peace to achieve meaningful development, ultimately elevating the community’s welfare.
The event featured numerous commendations for the professor from various speakers. The former Vice Chancellor of IBBUL, Prof. Muhammad Nasir Maturare, described Professor Baji as a valuable staff member who is focused, productive, highly reliable, determined, hardworking, morally upright, and an excellent human being, making him deserving of the title from his community and beyond.
Professor Yunusa Umaru from the Faculty of Education at ABU Zaria shared that Professor Baji was his student, whom he mentored, and expressed pride in him for his integrity and moral training, praying for divine guidance in his new role.
Dr. Suleiman Chado Suleiman, Head of Counseling Psychology at IBBU Lapai, noted that he was not surprised by the award, given Professor Baji’s contributions to the community.
He described him as a hardworking and accommodating individual who approaches his responsibilities with sincerity and a sense of accountability.
Earlier, Yahaya Umar, the Village Head of Baji, who conferred the title of Sarkin Yaki on Professor Baji, praised him as a remarkable individual who earns respect for his trustworthiness and community contributions.
Additionally, Professor Hadiza Ibrahim Gurusu and Dr. Ramatu Haruna both praised the ICEeL Director, highlighting his qualities as a team player, humble, principled, and disciplined, traits that make him deserving of the title of Sarkin Yaki.
The event was attended by academics from across the country, local and state politicians, community members, and traditional rulers, all in celebration of Professor Baji’s recognition.
