Niger State Governor Announces Unconditional Pardon for 11 Individuals Sentenced to Death.

By Yahaya Zakka Minna

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has exercised his constitutional authority to grant unconditional State pardons to 11 individuals previously sentenced to death.

This decision was revealed during a press briefing by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Nasiru Mu’azu, at the Government House in Minna.

The individuals in question were involved in a tragic communal conflict between the Gaba and Amfani communities in the Lavun local government area, which resulted in significant loss of life and property.

Barr. Mu’azu emphasized that the Governor’s decision is part of a broader initiative to foster reconciliation and promote lasting peace between the affected communities. He noted that multiple meetings have taken place to resolve outstanding issues.

In his address to journalists, the Attorney General encouraged other affected communities or individuals to submit formal requests for similar considerations in the future.

The Instrument of Pardon was officially signed on May 28, 2025, and has been duly published.

The recipients of the State pardon include Mohammed Mohammed, Nana Alhaji Sheshi, Isah Baba Nmadu, Mohammed Mohammed Ndabida, Abubakar Baba Salihu, Baba Mohammed Shaba, Adamu Mohammed Babaminin, Haruna Mohammed, Isah Mohammed Alhaji Inuwa, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Mohammed Isah.
