Hungry Nigerians Will Determine the 2027 Election – Governor Makinde.
Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, stated that the outcome of the 2027 general elections will be influenced more by the struggles of hungry Nigerians than by the recent defections of politicians to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made this statement on Wednesday during the official inauguration of the newly elected PDP South West zonal executive members at the party’s zonal secretariat, Soji Adagunodo House, Old Ife Road, Ibadan. He addressed the recent wave of defections that has affected the party.
He urged party members not to be discouraged by these defections to opposition parties, emphasizing that the PDP remains the only party in Nigeria with strong institutional structures.
Reiterating his support for the zonal executive, Makinde said, “My brother, the Executive Governor of Osun State, has already mentioned that the two of us will support our zonal executive committee to ensure its success. I am just reaffirming that. We will stand by this committee to help them fulfill their mandate.”
While expressing gratitude to party members for their commitment, Makinde stated, “This demonstrates your dedication to this party. It is not about positions. I assure you that there are still positions coming up. We are approaching the National Convention, and we will be asked to take on various responsibilities. Rest assured, we will not forget you, and God will not forget you either.
“People have been asking us, as leaders of this party, about the ongoing defections—even from governors—and about others threatening to leave. They wonder, ‘Where is this party headed?’
“Well, I have good news. I have told them we will not be concerned until hunger itself defects to the ruling party, APC. When that happens, they should come and inform us, and then we will know what action to take. There is significant hunger in the land, and the majority of hungry people will determine what the 2027 elections will look like.
“So, do not be worried. If any governor chooses to leave, we will remain committed to the people of Nigeria.”
