EFCC Transfers 753 Duplexes and Apartments from Emefiele to Federal Government.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially handed over a substantial estate in Abuja, consisting of 753 duplexes and apartments previously owned by Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to the Federal Government.
On May 20, 2025, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede presented the property to Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, in a ceremony held in Abuja.
Although specific details regarding the sale of the estate remain undisclosed at this time, it is anticipated that the government will soon offer the properties for purchase by interested buyers as part of its efforts to recover financial losses.
This development follows a ruling by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal High Court in Abuja on December 2, 2024, which granted final forfeiture of the Lokogoma District estate to the federal government.
According to a statement from Dele Oyewale, spokesperson for the EFCC, this estate, covering an area of 150,500 square meters, marks the largest single asset recovery by the commission since its inception in 2003.
Located on Plot 109 in the Cadastral Zone C09, the property was forfeited due to allegations that it was acquired through proceeds from unlawful activities involving a “former top brass of the government,” as stated by the EFCC.
While the specific identity of the property owner was not disclosed, the case was pursued under Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No. 14, 2006, and Section 44(2)(B) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
