Muye Community Petitions DSS Over Alleged Threats by the Lapai Emirate Council

From Our Correspondent
The Muye Sons and Daughters Forum has filed a petition with the Director-General of the Directorate of State Security Services (DSS) in Abuja, alleging threats to the lives and properties of residents in Muye area by the Lapai Emirate Council, led by the Emir of Lapai.
In the petition, signed by Engr. Abdullahi Idris, made available to Newsmen in Minna, the group claims that the council, in collaboration with the Commissioner of Local and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Chairman of Lapai Local Government Area, has been instigating threats against the community, particularly towards their leader, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed Maigari II, the Amana of Kakanda Muye.
The petitioners allege that despite a court ruling in favor of Alhaji Maigari II, the Lapai Emirate Council, led by Alhaji Salihu Muhammed, continues to harass and intimidate the community, including the unjust arrest of some of Maigari’s supporters without warrants or trials.
“We are law-abiding citizens, and we wish to bring to your attention the threats to the security of lives and properties in Muye and its surroundings posed by the aforementioned individuals,” the petition states.
The group has urged the DSS to intervene and has called on the Niger State Government to address the situation before it escalates into a full-blown crisis. “We request that you use your offices to urge the Niger State Government to resolve this matter promptly, as failure to do so may lead to a breakdown of law and order,” the petition emphasizes.
The petitioners also question the allegations made against Alhaji Maigari II, asserting that the issues raised pertain to traditional practices within the Muye community that have been upheld for decades. “Do dressing codes for chiefs exist in Niger State or Nigeria?” they inquired.
All attempts to reach the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs,Hon Halidu Jantabo for his response to the petition were unsuccessful, as he did not answer phone calls or respond to text messages.
