AGF Ogunjimi to Prioritize Passage of PFM Bill
The Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, has expressed his commitment to ensuring the successful passage of the Public Financial Management (PFM) Bill.
He made this statement during a meeting with the Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Dr. Dasuki Arabi, who led a team from the agency on a courtesy visit to him.
In a Press release issued by the Director of Information, Press & Public Relations (OAGF) Bawa Mokwa stated that the PFM Bill was initiated by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) to provide legal backing for the public finance management reform initiatives of the federal government as well as the operations of the treasury.
During the meeting, Mr. Ogunjimi stated, “I am aware of the Public Financial Management Bill. I am a member of the committee that is drafting the Bill; thus, ensuring its passage will be one of my top priorities.”
He also mentioned that a stakeholders’ engagement is planned for the proposed Bill and requested the involvement of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms in this process.
The AGF highlighted his commitment to positive reforms aimed at repositioning the treasury for more efficient performance.
Mr. Ogunjimi acknowledged the crucial role that the BPSR plays in public service reforms and expressed the OAGF’s determination to collaborate closely with the agency in driving treasury reforms and improving public financial management in Nigeria.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr. Dasuki Arabi, noted that the visit was intended to strengthen the relationship between the BPSR and the OAGF, as well as to explore opportunities for synergy to enhance reforms and service delivery within the country’s public service.
He mentioned that the BPSR plans to conduct a nationwide impact assessment of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and that the OAGF will play an active role in this initiative.
Dr. Arabi also drew Mr. Ogunjimi’s attention to the outstanding entitlements of government employees who were disengaged during the 2006 right-sizing exercise, suggesting that a committee be established to verify these entitlements and address any complaints.
Dr. Dasuki Arabi congratulated the AGF on his appointment and expressed optimism regarding his ability to lead the treasury effectively.
