Thinklab group Commended as Niger State Government reviews progress on Shiroro Hotel Conversion to IBB Teaching Hospital.

By Our Correspondent.

The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the ongoing conversion of the Shiroro Hotel into the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Teaching Hospital (IBBTH), a transformative healthcare infrastructure initiative aimed at supporting medical education and service delivery in the state.

This assurance was made during a recent site inspection led by key government officials, including Honorable Sulaiman Umar, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Dr. Bello Tukur, Commissioner for Secondary and Tertiary Health, and Mustafa Jibrin Ndajiwo, Commissioner for the Niger State Planning Commission.

Honorable Sulaiman Umar underscored the urgency of completing the project to accommodate medical students from IBB University who are transitioning into the clinical phase of their training.

He noted that delays in providing adequate infrastructure could result in the relocation of students to facilities outside the state, as mandated by regulatory authorities.

He therefore urged ThinkLab Group Limited, the contractors handling the project, to expedite work on priority areas such as hostels and lecture theatres to meet the required timeline.

Dr. Bello Tukur commended the quality of work observed during the site visit and requested the submission of a detailed work plan to ensure the timely completion of the project, which has been in progress for nearly two years.

He emphasized that the successful delivery of this project would stand as a landmark achievement of the present administration.

Mustafa Jibrin Ndajiwo, Commissioner for the Niger State Planning Commission, expressed satisfaction with the transparent updates provided on-site.

He confirmed that critical observations and recommendations would be communicated directly to His Excellency, Governor Umar Mohammed Bago, to facilitate the successful delivery of the project.

The delegation also visited the Central Medical Store, where they inspected medical equipment supplied for various departments of the IBB Teaching Hospital.
As work continues, the Niger State Government, in collaboration with ThinkLab Group Limited, remains dedicated to delivering world-class healthcare infrastructure to serve the needs of the community and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development goals.

PCN Seals 486 Pharmacy Premises for Various Offences in Niger State.   In line with its mandate, the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 486 premises for violating relevant regulations in Niger State. This action includes the closure of 69 pharmacies, 127 patent medicine stores, and 290 unlicensed shops. Dr. Suleiman S. Ciroma, the Head of Enforcement at the PCN headquarters, shared this information during a briefing for journalists at the PCN North Central Zonal office in Minna, following an inspection exercise in the state. He reported that one individual was arrested and will face prosecution for obstructing PCN inspectors while they performed their duties. The inspection focused on key areas, including the condition of premises, personnel, pharmaceutical practices, and ethical adherence to ensure safe and standard service delivery. During the exercise, a total of 672 premises were inspected, consisting of 136 pharmacies and 536 patent medicine stores across nine local government areas: Agaie, Bida, Tafa, Chanchaga, Lapai, Paikoro, Bosso, Suleja, and Gurara. Dr. Ciroma emphasized that this rigorous enforcement initiative will be carried out simultaneously across the country to ensure that Nigerians have access to safe medicines and that minimum quality assurance standards are met. The inspections revealed numerous regulatory violations, including the illegal operation of unlicensed premises, non-compliance with established regulations, unauthorized clinical practices, sales of controlled substances, and the improper training of apprentices. The Head of Enforcement encouraged the public to recognize genuine pharmacies and patent medicine vendors by looking for their current licenses prominently displayed within their premises.   He expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the citizens of Niger State during this successful operation.   The operation aims to eliminate unauthorized pharmaceutical establishments and unqualified practitioners, ultimately helping to reduce the incidence of substandard and falsified medical products in the state and throughout Nigeria.
