Niger State House of Assembly Initiates Discussion on Academic Staff Retirement Age Legislation.

The Niger State House of Assembly has commenced deliberations on a proposed bill aimed at establishing a mandatory retirement age for academic staff in tertiary institutions. Sponsored by Hon. Mohammed Sani Idris, the representative for Tafa Constituency, the bill addresses key concerns surrounding the retirement age in the academic sector.
During the recent plenary session, several assembly members contributed their insights and perspectives on the matter, leading to the bill being forwarded to the House Standing Committee on Education for further examination.
Additionally, two other significant bills were presented during the session:
– A Bill to Amend the Niger State Rural Access Roads Development Authority Law, 2023 (NISRADA), introduced by Hon. Idris Musa Vatsa (Lapai), during its first reading.
– A Bill to Amend the Law Establishing the Niger State Public Procurement Board Law, 2020, also presented by the Majority Leader, Hon. Idris Musa Vatsa (Lapai).
The session was led by Deputy Speaker Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda. Following the discussions, the House has announced a recess, with plans to reconvene on April 15, 2025.
