19 Northern State/ FCT Abuja NUP Executives Forum Convenes to Address Pensioners’ Challenges

By Our Correspondent.

The Northern State Executives Forum of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners recently convened in Kaduna to discuss pressing issues affecting the Union.

In a post-meeting address to journalists, the Chairman of the forum, Comrade Salisu Ahmed Gwale, highlighted the forum’s commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to enhance the entitlements and welfare of pensioners across the nineteen Northern states. He emphasized that the primary responsibility of the Union is to advocate for the resolution of outstanding liabilities owed to pensioners throughout the region.

“We are intensifying our discussions and addressing key issues related to this matter,” he stated.

Comrade Ahmed Gwale urged federal, state, and local governments to increase their efforts in supporting pensioners.

He also encouraged pensioners to actively support the Union’s initiatives for improved service delivery.

Additionally, Comrade Ahmed Ibrahim Gazali, Senior Assistant General Administration of the Union, pointed out that the meeting served as a platform for sharing ideas and strategizing on how to overcome the challenges faced by members.

He reiterated the Union’s commitment to ensuring that pensioners benefit from the recent minimum wage increment in the region.

“The major impact of our Union is that pensions are reviewed every five years, and we firmly believe that state and local governments should comply with the circular so that pensioners receive necessary increases in their pensions,” he stated.

Gazali called on pensioners to remain prayerful for the success of their ongoing efforts.

The forum’s Treasurer, Comrade Abdullahi Baba Sani, also addressed the need for action from state governors regarding gratuities and wage increments for pensioners.

He appealed to Northern governors to prioritize this issue, stating, “I urge our Northern governors, in the name of Allah, to address the concerns regarding wage increments for pensioners.”

Comrade Sani encouraged pensioners to maintain regular communication with their leaders and voice their concerns for prompt action.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the Forum, Comrade Al Hassan Balarabe Musa, emphasized the critical need for wage and pension increments by the nineteen Northern governors to alleviate the hardships faced by pensioners. He expressed hope that the governors would promptly respond to the plight of the pensioners.
