Yahaya Bello’s Aide Abducted by Gunmen
Honorable Kabiru Onyene, an aide to former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, has been kidnapped by gunmen.
According to reports, Onyene was abducted around 7:05 PM on Monday, December 9, when the assailants stormed his business in Okene, Kogi State, firing shots indiscriminately before forcibly taking him to an unknown location.
At the time of the incident, Onyene was reportedly at his restaurant, “Nahaziyat,” located just a few meters from the palace of the late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, HRM Ado Ibrahim.
A bystander was reportedly shot during the incident, and their condition remains uncertain.
An eyewitness described the chaos: “Suddenly, around 7:05 PM on Monday, we began to hear a series of loud sounds that many of us initially mistook for firecrackers in celebration of the yuletide season.
However, when we saw several people running in different directions to evade stray bullets, it became clear that these were gunshots, not fireworks as we first thought.
“Minutes later, news began to spread that the gunmen had invaded Kabiru’s office and taken him away.”
Eyewitnesses expressed confusion over the abduction, considering that the incident took place only about 200 meters from a military roadblock established near the former governor’s residence.
One friend of Kabiru Onyene shared on social media: “My dear brother, Honorable Kabiru Onyene, has been abducted from his office this evening.
We urgently seek your prayers for his safe return. May Allah SWT protect him from harm, guide the authorities to locate him swiftly, and reunite him with his loved ones.”
