Niger State Governor Commissions Five Solar Boreholes at NYSC Orientation Camp
In a bid to enhance water supply for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has inaugurated five newly constructed solar boreholes at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Paiko, situated in the Paikoro Local Government Area of the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of General Services, Abdullahi Legbo, the governor emphasized that the construction of the new boreholes is aimed at ensuring a reliable water supply for corps members at the camp.
He urged the corps members to join in the fulfilling journey of nation-building, asserting that the NYSC serves as a vital tool for promoting national unity and development. “The scheme has successfully upheld its mandate of mobilizing Nigerian graduates and instilling in them core values of patriotism, teamwork, integrity, and tolerance,” he stated.
Governor Bago praised the contributions of corps members to the development of various sectors in the economy, describing the NYSC as a beacon of hope for Nigeria’s future. He also encouraged them to take advantage of the “Digital Literacy for All” campaign launched by the Federal Government in collaboration with the NYSC, emphasizing that developed economies thrive on technology.
He assured that the state government would continue to create an enabling environment for corps members and ensure that the orientation camp meets their comfort needs. Furthermore, he called on security agencies to partner with the government to ensure the safety of corps members in the state.
During her welcome address, the NYSC Coordinator in Niger State, Mrs. Olayinka Abdulwahab, expressed gratitude to the governor for fostering an enabling environment for the scheme to fulfill its mandates. She encouraged corps members to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program to acquire and develop new skills.
Abdulwahab commended the corps members for their exemplary conduct and urged them to maintain their best behavior throughout the orientation course and beyond.
Similarly, the Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG) and Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, urged corps members to promote national unity and development. Represented by Mr. Paul Timothy, Director of the SSG Office, he advised them to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities during their service year.
He assured that the board remains committed to facilitating accommodation, transportation, security, and other essential amenities for the welfare and overall success of the corps members throughout their service year.
