I use different uniforms for robbery operations – Dismissed Soldier confesses

A 34-year-old dismissed Corporal of the Nigerian Army, Emmanuel Anthony has confessed to his involvement in the alleged conspiracy and armed robbery in Osun State.

The suspect who was arrested by the Anti-kidnapping Squad of the Nigerian Police, Osun State Command, was dismissed from the service in January 2024 over misconduct.

Confessing about the crime during a parade of some suspects at the Police Headquarters in Osogbo, Anthony said he started the act after he was dismissed in January 2024, adding that the different military uniforms were being used for special operations.

“My name is Emmanuel Anthony, I joined the Military in 2018 and was dismissed in January 2024 for misconduct. I’m from Akwa Ibom state but reside in Ibadan, Oyo State. I came to Osun for a robbery operation and was arrested.

“I worked with two other colleagues to carry out operations on victims. We forced the victim to transfer the sum of #3 million from their bank account.

“The uniforms are used to perfect our operations,” the dismissed soldier said.

Anthony and other suspects were paraded at the Police headquarters on Friday in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

While addressing journalists, the Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Yemisi Opalola, said two victims, Amole Muiz and Adegoke Gbenga, were waylaid by gunmen in military uniform on May 31, 2024, and forced to transfer ₦3 million into a Monie-point account.

Opalola stated that two others, Olawumi Oluwaseun and Ishola, were robbed of iPhones valued at ₦1.25 million.

She disclosed that the suspect confessed to being a dismissed soldier and confessed to having conspired with David and two others who are also dismissed military men to carry out the operations on the victims.

She explained that On the 31st May 2024, One Amole Muiz ‘m’ and Adegoke Gbenga ‘m’ of Wole–Oke Street, Esa-Oke reported that unknown gunmen in military uniform came in a Honda Pilot Jeep, waylaid them, and took them into a bush along Ekiti road.

“Subsequently, they forced the victim to transfer the sum of #3 million from their bank account into one Monie-point account before they were released. Similarly, one Olawumi Oluwaseun and Ishola both ‘m’ were also attacked by the same gunmen who robbed them of their iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, respectively, valued at #1.25 million, before they were also freed.

“Having received this report, detectives from the Anti-kidnapping Squad, through technical and intelligence analysis, identified the account name to belong to one David Agbebaku ‘m’, who was later confirmed to have already been arrested by the Police in Oyo state.
“Further analysis led the detectives to the arrest of one Anthony Emmanuel ‘m’ in Ibadan.

The suspect confessed to be a dismissed soldier and confessed to have conspired with David and two others who are also dismissed military men, to carry out the operations on the victims,” she added.
