One person Shot Dead In Fresh Attempt To Invade RSIEC As Gunshots Rocks Port Harcourt.
Tensions escalated in Rivers State ahead of the October 5th Local Government elections, as a fresh attempt to invade the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) office was thwarted.
According to reports, armed thugs allegedly tried to storm the RSIEC premises but were met with resistance from security forces stationed at the site.
In the ensuing gun battle, one of the attackers was shot and killed.
Sources told Nigeria daily post that the group of thugs, believed to be seeking to disrupt the upcoming electoral process, encountered the Nigerian Army.
“Information reaching us has it that some armed thugs who came to further attack the RSIEC office had a gun battle with the Army, and one of the thugs got what he was looking for,” a source stated.
