A Baot capsized Kills over 200 hundred passenger in Gbajibo village, Niger state.
A boat carrying over two hundred passenger’s have capsized at Gbajibo village in Mokwa Local Government area of Niger state.
The incidence according to the Media officer of Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Niger State, Mallam Habibu Abubakar wushishi said it occurred yesterday 1st October, 2024 around 8.30pm while conveying passengers from Mundi market to Gbajibo village in mokwa local government area.
According to the statement the cause of the mishap is yet to be ascertained and the ministry is working assiduously with the ministry of transport, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, National Inland Water Ways to unravel the circumstances that led to the mishap.
The statement further said the Hon. Commissioner Ahmed Baba Suleiman Yumu and the Permanent Secretary Barrister Mairo Mohammed Mann have received with shock and pains the report,search and rescue team has since commenced and shall continue to update all critical Stakeholders of the mishap.
The ministry however reiterate the need for all residents of the riverine area to desist from night travels, overloading, and passengers advised to use live jackets on boats to avert future occurrence.
The Commissioner,Yumu further commiserate with the people of Gbajibo village, Mokwa Local Government Council and Niger State Government over this unfortunate and avoidable accidence.
It could be recalled that this mishap is the second of its kind that occurred in the same village few months back.
