2023: Group trains 100 election observers in Niger

Daniel Atori, Minna

In its bid to ensure free, fair and credible elections, the Transmission Monitoring Group (TMG) has trained 100 observers that are to be deployed across Niger State.

State Coordinator, TMG, Mr. Mathew Oladele during a Step down training for Observers in Niger State organized by the Transmission Monitoring Group (TMG) in Minna, said all local government areas (LGAs) in the state will be observed but there will be total restrictions to red flagged places.

He said during a training tagged Supporting Citizens Engagement Towards the 2023 General Election that 25 LGAs Coordinators have been trained and they will in turn train three observers each in their LGAs making 100 observers in all.

According to him “Niger state is very important but despite the insecurity challenges, we will go to all the LGAs but, no observer will be made to go to red flagged zones or areas for their safety.”

He further charged the observers not to interfere in the activities of the electoral officers but to discharge their duties as observers through their recommendations that will help improve future elections in the country.

Deputy Coordinators, zone A, Baba Shehu Ahmed and Zone B, Marthar Ogah who is in charge of eight and nine LGAs respectively said most of the LGAs are free from insecurity challenges and that the observers will move freely to monitor the voting in areas that are well secured.
