Niger ADC Confirms Plans to Run Against Governor Umar Bago in the 2027 General Elections

The Niger State branch of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its strong commitment and readiness to compete against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in upcoming state and national elections.
At a key stakeholders’ meeting in Minna, the state party chairman, Abdulhameed El-Waziri, addressed journalists, emphasizing that the ADC remains the primary and robust alternative for Nigerians seeking to overcome current misgovernance.
He highlighted the party’s unity and lack of unresolved conflicts, stressing the importance of coming together for the 2027 elections to oust the APC, especially in Niger State.
El-Waziri stated, “Our increasing popularity and acceptance across the state and nationwide have unsettled the ruling party, which seems to be attempting to weaken the opposition.”
While acknowledging internal challenges, he noted they are being effectively managed and expressed confidence that the party’s growing support positions it well for the 2027 elections.
The chairman criticized the ruling party for allegedly meddling in opposition affairs through what he called “hanky-panky” and raised concerns over conflicting court rulings that undermine judicial independence.
He also criticized some judicial decisions as partisan, citing instances where lower courts issued rulings conflicting with higher court verdicts.
El-Waziri reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to credible leadership and announced plans for an issues-based campaign focused on ground realities to resonate with voters ahead of the elections.
He further stated that the court has recognized the David Mark- and Aregbesola-led national leadership of the ADC, claiming this recognition has made the opposition nervous, prompting retaliatory attacks on party structures at both state and federal levels.
