BREAKING: President Tinubu Orders EFCC to Lift Court Freeze on Osun State Accounts
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to promptly seek court approval to lift the freeze on Osun State Government accounts and cease related proceedings.
He expressed that he was “deeply embarrassed” not by the EFCC’s enforcement of its mandate under a court order, but by the timing of the action. “Every step taken by an institution of State, especially at the Federal level, is often attributed to me, as the President, even if I was not aware of it beforehand,” his statement indicated.
President Tinubu reiterated his firm stance that anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies must operate independently, professionally, and free from political influence. He emphasized that he has intentionally avoided directing or meddling in the operational activities of the EFCC or any investigative body.
He described the timing as “inauspicious,” given that Osun State is just days away from its gubernatorial election. “Nothing should be done to suggest that the EFCC or any other federal agency is being used to interfere with the electoral process,” he added.
