Niger Assembly Committee on Works Meets with Ministry, Inspects Dilapidated Roads in Minna
Niger State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Works and Infrastructure held a meeting with the Niger State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure at the Assembly Complex in Minna to discuss the worsening condition of some major roads in the state.
The meeting followed a motion presented during plenary by the Majority Leader and Member representing Lapai Constituency, Hon. Idris Musa Vatsa, highlighting the poor state of the Eastern Bypass Road along the El-Amin School axis and the urgent need for government action.
After deliberations, the House referred the matter to the Standing Committee on Works and Infrastructure, mandating them to invite the Minister and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry to collaborate with the Committee and report back for further legislative steps.
At the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Hassan Baba Etsu, led a delegation that included the Managing Director of NIGROMA, Hon. Usman Magaji, and other senior officials.
During the meeting, Committee Chairman Hon. Arc. Abubakar Suleiman Gomna, Member representing Bosso Constituency, explained that the purpose was to enable immediate, temporary repairs on severely deteriorated sections of key roads in Minna and nearby areas to ease the hardship faced by motorists and other road users.
The Committee identified several critical road sections needing urgent attention, including the Eastern Bypass Road near the M.I. Wushishi Estate, Shiroro Roundabout, and Mandela Junction. They agreed with officials from the Ministry and the contractor, CCEC Nigeria Limited, to conduct a joint site assessment.
As part of this effort, the Committee visited the yard of CCEC Nigeria Limited in the Morris area of Minna, providing an opportunity for direct interaction with the contractor before inspecting the damaged road sections.
In his comments, the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Hassan Baba Ets, commended the Committee, the leadership, and members of the 10th Niger State House of Assembly for their concern and dedication to keeping roads in the state motorable, safe, and accessible for all citizens. He also noted that work on the affected roads was already underway.
Representing CCEC Nigeria Limited, Engr. Bob Lee thanked the Committee for their interest and assured them that temporary repairs on the identified problematic spots would start the next day, beginning with the Eastern Bypass Road near the PDP Secretariat, while more extensive rehabilitation would follow.
