Minister of Education Summons FUTO V/C Over Appointment Controversy.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has summoned the Vice-Chancellor to Abuja over the perceived irregularities in the appointment of 24 aides within his office.
The summons followed the leak of a letter signed by the Acting Director of University Education, Dr. Kareem Olalekan, on behalf of the Minister. The minister has described these appointments as inconsistent with the regulations governing Nigeria’s federal universities.
The Ministry of Education confirmed that the appointments contravene established procedures and due process within the Federal University System. Consequently, the ministry has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the appointments and requested documentary proof that the directive has been executed.
Part of the official correspondence states that the appointments, as outlined in the Memo Ref. No. FUT/REG/CR/CIR/4 dated June 22, 2026, is deemed irregular and in violation of procedural standards. The Minister has instructed that the memorandum be withdrawn without delay and that evidence of compliance be forwarded promptly.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor is scheduled to meet with ministry officials on Monday, June 29, 2026.
In a related matter, Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, has announced the reversal of the same 24 aide appointments. This action follows his summons to attend a meeting with the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja on the same date.
According to a circular issued by the FUTO Registrar, Chiedozie Uba, the previous appointments conveyed through Memo Ref. FUT/REG/CR/CIR.4 have been officially withdrawn effective immediately.
