Violence Erupts at APC Primary Election in Gboko as Youths Beat State Appointees

Tension erupted in Gboko on Wednesday following an alleged assault on two appointees of Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia by irate APC youths during the party’s Assembly primary election.
The involved officials are Hon. James Tor, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Politics and Mobilization and Hon. Smart Girgi.
Reports from the scene indicate that the officials were confronted by a group of angry APC youths who accused them of attempting to steal materials designated for the primary election.
Eyewitnesses said the situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation when the youths intercepted the officials, accusing them of trying to manipulate the electoral process.
The two appointees were reportedly assaulted until security personnel intervened to restore calm.
Several protesting youths stated their determination to resist any attempts to compromise the election’s integrity, asserting that electoral manipulation would no longer be tolerated.
The Benue State chapter of the APC has yet to issue a comment on the incident.
