Engr. Dada Wins APC Primary for Bosso-Paikoro Constituency After Rerun, Defeats Incumbent
Engr. Ibrahim Dada Maikunkele, a FIFA-licensed player intermediary and Chairman of Niger Tornadoes FC, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Bosso–Paikoro Federal Constituency following a rerun primary held on Tuesday.
A structural engineer and former State Coordinator of the Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP), Engr. Dada had already led in the initial primary on Saturday. However, the process was declared inconclusive due to logistical challenges across some wards in the constituency.
The rerun election, conducted in Bosso Central and Chanchaga wards of Bosso Local Government Area, along with selected wards of Paikoro Local Government Area, resulted in a clear victory for Dada. He secured 6,491 votes, earning the party’s nomination ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC House of Representatives Primary Election Committee Chairman, Abdullahi Muhammad Abubakar, announced that results for nine of Niger State’s ten federal constituencies had been finalized, with Bosso–Paikoro pending due to the earlier inconclusive exercise.
He stated that Engr. Dada received 6,491 votes, defeating incumbent Hon. Yusuf Kure Baraje, who garnered 1,109 votes. Other candidates included Kabiru Jazu with 720 votes, Ladidi Bawa Bosso with 639 votes, and Adamu Bako with 57 votes.
Abubakar confirmed that Engr. Dada met all APC constitutional and guideline requirements and obtained the highest valid vote count, thus being declared the primary election winner.
“Engineer Ibrahim Dada, having fulfilled all stipulated requirements and secured the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the Bosso–Paikoro Federal Constituency primary election and is duly returned as the candidate,” he stated.
In his victory speech, Engr. Dada expressed gratitude to the APC leadership in Niger State, stakeholders, and party members in Bosso and Paikoro for ensuring a fair process. He also thanked delegates and supporters, promising to uphold their trust and work diligently for the constituency’s development.
He called for unity among party members, emphasizing the need for collective effort to achieve victory in the 2027 general elections.
