Izere’s to contest the Senatorial seat of Plateau North in the National Assembly in 2026

A group of political concerned group in Plateau North Senatorial District has made passionate appeal to the people of the zonal Senatorial to adhere to the zonal arrangement by zoning the seat to Izere speaking natives in the spirit of fair play .
This was contained in a statement made available to this medium in Jos says ,we kindly recall that you called the aspirants along with some members of the committee ,few Elders about three weeks ago, at that meeting you expressed concerns that time was of essence and it appeared that not much had been done for us to come up with a single aspirant to face the Senate contest.
According to the statement,At that meeting, you were told that the political committee was working and talking with the aspirants as well across the length and breadth of the zone .
Shortly after that meeting, the political committee sat and arranged to call the aspirants.
On Monday 27th April 2026, the committee invited the five (5) Aspirants namely Dr. Joseph Magaji Azi, Professor Danladi Abok Atu, Hon. Bitrus Kaze, Hon James Atang Itsegok and Hon. Moses Yakubu Izang (Musa Awo). Apart from the aspirants, Mr. Agwom Atang, Chairman of the APC in the zone and Mr. Gideon Nyako were also invited as well as the Chairman of Izere Elders’ Council Mr. Agwom Nyam to witness the proceeding.
However, the party leadership gave an apology for not attending the meeting.
The secretary of the committee also could not attend the meeting as he was engaged in another meeting.
The meeting was scheduled for 10:00 AM but did not start till about 1:00PM. We had to wait for all the aspirants to attend, of these, only Professor Atu could not attend. (I personally contacted their representatives or themselves apart from their contact modules). Commencing the meeting, the committee requested to know how far the aspirants had gone in arriving at a single person to represent Afizere in the Senatorial race.
The aspirants informed us that, having considered all circumstances, they had arrived at a common ground that a fresh person in the contest should be considered.
The two aspirants from Jos North LGA are older than the other three i.e Hon Kaze, James Itsegok and Musa Awo who are from Jos EAST LGA, however, Hon Kaze was left to have a re-think if he had other options.
They all agreed that Dr. Joseph Magaji Azi be given the opportunity to represent Izere in the contest.
The committee expressed concern that one of the aspirants – Prof. Atu, was not in attendance to contribute to the discussion but other members said since majority of the aspirants assured us they have been meeting and it was their resolve that any decision taken should be binding on them.
Dr. Joseph Azi also said he will abide by any decision in the interest of our people.
Having heard all the four (4) aspirants, the committee was convinced that the best way to go is to agree with the other contestants and pronounced that Dr. Joseph Magaji Azi should be allowed to carry the flag of Izere.
This assignment is premised on deep moral and practical reality. So prayerfully, we should handle it with unity and love, not hatred.
Elder Agwom Nyam was asked to bless the meeting, he did and said Prof. Atu should be properly briefed.
