National Grid Experiences Second Collapse in Five Days

Nigeria’s national power grid failed again on Tuesday morning, resulting in widespread electricity outages nationwide.

According to data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), power supply to the country’s 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) dropped to zero megawatts (MW) as of 11:00 a.m., with total generation falling to just 39 MW.

This marks the second grid collapse within a week, following a similar nationwide outage on January 23, the first of the year.

NISO has attributed the incident to a system-wide disturbance related to transmission and generation failures
