Niger APC Chieftain Vatsa Congratulates President Tinubu on Appointing Christopher Musa as Defense Minister, Urges Collaboration with State Governors

Hon. Jonathan Vatsa, a former Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, and a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, has praised the appointment of former Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa (retired), as Nigeria’s Defense Minister, calling it the most commendable decision made by the Tinubu administration so far.
Vatsa noted that the positive response to Musa’s appointment across the country shows that the former CDS is well-equipped for the role.
Speaking at the ongoing eight-day retreat for new commissioners, elected council chairmen, permanent secretaries, and special advisers in Minna on Thursday, Vatsa emphasized that President Bola Tinubu has shown a strong commitment to tackling Nigeria’s security issues.
“This might be one of President Tinubu’s wisest appointments. Musa’s selection based on merit suggests that Nigerians will soon see relief from the worsening security situation,” he said.
The former APC publicity secretary in Niger State explained that Nigeria’s current situation calls for decisive action and acknowledged worldwide concern over the country’s security crisis.
“The nation is at a critical point. Terrorist attacks have fundamentally changed the daily lives of citizens. Nigerians face two main enemies: hardship and insecurity. Many have paid ransoms to kidnappers, who take advantage of the country’s vulnerabilities for profit. Schools are closed, transportation routes are dangerous, and markets are no longer safe,” he stated.
Vatsa also suggested that the recent increase in terrorist attacks seems aimed at blocking President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. “That is why I initially urged swift action earlier this year, to prevent his second term from being jeopardized, as was the case with former President Goodluck Jonathan.”
He recognized that appointing Musa is a positive step but emphasized the need to give him sufficient support and resources.
“Even the most capable leader needs proper tools and backing to succeed. All stakeholders must work together and support Musa to see real results. This issue goes beyond the federal government alone,” he concluded.
