NUJ Chairman urges MAW Trade FM Journalists to uphold fairness and objectivity in reporting
The Niger State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Abu Nmodu, has called on journalists working with the newly established private radio station, MAW Trade FM, Minna, to remain fair, objective, and factual in their reporting, thereby promoting peace and stability in the state.
Comrade Nmodu made the call during a familiarisation visit to the station located in the Uphill area of Minna. He urged journalists to demonstrate a high sense of professionalism and responsibility in their duties, emphasising that credible journalism is vital to the growth of the media industry and to societal unity.
The NUJ Chairman assured that the union would continue to support and collaborate with media organisations that uphold ethical standards and professionalism, adding that this remains the surest way to distinguish genuine practitioners from impostors in the profession.
He commended the management and staff of MAW Trade FM for their steady progress and responsible approach to journalism, noting that strict adherence to professional ethics would pave the way for the swift formation of an NUJ Chapel for the station once other formalities are completed.
Comrade Nmodu also advised the station’s management to prioritise staff welfare to boost morale and productivity.
In her remarks, the Acting Head of the Station, Sa’adatu Alhassan, appreciated the NUJ Chairman for his visit, describing it as a sign of his commitment to inclusive leadership.
She appealed to the State NUJ Council to consider granting the MAW Trade FM official Chapel status to foster a stronger sense of belonging among staff.
Also speaking, the station’s Consultant and former NUJ Chairman in the state, Comrade Mohammed Mohammed, expressed optimism that the Council would give prompt and favourable consideration to the station’s request for Chapel formation.
