Urgent Appeal to the Federal Government for the Rehabilitation of the Critical Federal Road and Wuya Bridge in Niger State.

By Yahaya Zakka Minna

The Radio Callers and Listeners Association of Nigeria (Niger State Chapter) has urgently called on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to address the deteriorating conditions of the Lambata–Lapai–Agaie–Bida–Mokwa Federal Road and the critical structural integrity of the Wuya Bridge.

In a press release signed by Chairman Comrade Alhaji Ibrahim Gaawu Baddegi, the need for swift intervention was passionately conveyed to prevent further tragedies and to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of those who rely on this crucial transport link.

Constructed in the 1960s, the Wuya Bridge is at risk of imminent collapse, posing a severe threat to both motorists and pedestrians.

The Lambata–Lapai–Agaie–Bida–Mokwa Federal Road serves as a vital artery connecting the northern and southern regions of Nigeria. Unfortunately, it has become increasingly hazardous due to heavy traffic from overloaded trucks and tankers. This has resulted in frequent accidents, loss of life, and dangerous explosions that affect nearby communities.

The association reports a daily toll of deaths and injuries associated with this route, highlighting the unbearable suffering experienced by motorists, traders, and local residents. Despite ongoing appeals from community leaders and citizens, the conditions continue to worsen.

In their statement, the association urged the Federal Ministry of Works and other relevant agencies to take immediate and decisive action to rehabilitate the road and to urgently repair or reconstruct the vulnerable bridge.

They emphasized the importance of maintaining good road infrastructure for safety, economic activity, and the government’s accountability to its citizens.
