Ogunjimi Calls for Collaboration with UK ICAN District for National Treasury Academy Development.

By Yahaya Zakka Minna

The Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Shemeldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has officially requested the support and expertise of the United Kingdom District of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) for the advancement of the National Treasury Academy located in Orozo.

In a press release issued by Bawa Mokwa, Director of the Press Office of the Accountant General, Dr. Ogunjimi made this appeal during a courtesy visit from a delegation led by the current Chairman of the UK ICAN District, Mr. Akintayo Ojo, FCNA, in Abuja.

During the meeting, Dr. Ogunjimi underscored the critical need for the Academy to adhere to global standards in financial management and accounting.

He expressed his belief that this collaboration would significantly elevate the Academy’s role as a center of excellence for public financial management and accounting education in Nigeria.

He further invited the UK ICAN District to leverage their extensive experience and knowledge in accounting principles and international best practices to support the Academy’s development.

Dr. Ogunjimi reiterated his commitment to transforming the institution into a leading training and capacity development center for Nigeria’s public finance sector.

Additionally, Dr. Ogunjimi confirmed that Treasury staff will participate in the upcoming UK ICAN Conference scheduled for early March 2026, demonstrating his proactive approach to engagement with international accounting standards.

In his remarks, Mr. Akintayo Ojo expressed gratitude to Dr. Ogunjimi for his continued support, noting that his efforts have significantly contributed to the progress and achievements of the UK ICAN District.

Mr. Ojo also shared insights regarding the preparations for the District’s 35th Annual Conference, which is set to occur in early March 2026, and extended an invitation for the Accountant General’s office to be present at the event.

This call for cooperation represents a significant step toward enhancing the capabilities of the National Treasury Academy and underscores the importance of aligning with international best practices in public financial management.
