D.G. Education and School Reforms Applauds Niger Foods for Its Support.

The Director General of Education and School Reforms in Niger State, Hajiya Maimuna Mohammed, has praised Niger Foods and Logistics Company Ltd for their support in expanding the ministry’s pilot scheme of the school farm garden initiative and intervention program.
The Director General remarked that the reform concept leading to the introduction of farming in five selected schools in the state capital aligns with modern technology and scientific approaches to agriculture.
She noted that due to ongoing challenges in the education sector, the current administration under Governor Umar Mohammed Bago has mandated schools to teach entrepreneurship to both public and private students. This initiative has given rise to the school farm garden program.
Furthermore, Mohammed explained that the selection of schools for this initiative was based on factors such as land availability and security.
The first phase of the pilot scheme includes Maryam Babangida Science College, Government Girls Secondary School in Minna, a nomadic school, and several smart schools.
Joyce Jiya, the state liaison officer between Niger Foods and Logistics Company and the office of the DG for school reform, added that Niger Foods is providing boarding schools with farming equipment such as seedlings, tractors, and herbicides to enable them to sustain themselves through their agricultural production.
Additionally, she mentioned that approximately 10 hectares of land are being cultivated by the students of Maryam Babangida Science College and Government Girls Secondary School in Minna.
