The Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umar Bago, has been honoured with the Best Governor on Agriculture and Infrastructure Award by Blueprint Newspaper, recognising his outstanding strides in transforming the state’s agricultural landscape and infrastructure renewal.
The award was presented during the 2025 Blueprint Public Lecture, Impact Series, and Awards Ceremony held at the Ladi Kwali Hall of Abuja Continental Hotel, where Governor Bago was ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hajia Binta Mamman.
According to Blueprint Newspaper, the award recognises Governor Bago’s exceptional commitment to expanding food production, empowering farmers, and repositioning Niger State as Nigeria’s food basket, alongside his significant investments in rural and urban infrastructure to drive economic growth and connectivity across the state.
The high-profile event, chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, drew notable figures including Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin and key ministers from Information and National Orientation, Solid Minerals, Agriculture and Food Security, Livestock Development, and Water Resources.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Governor, Hajia Binta Mamman expressed appreciation to Blueprint Newspaper for acknowledging the administration’s efforts in repositioning Niger State, describing the recognition as a motivation for the government to sustain its reform agenda under the Renewed Hope framework.
“This award is a testament to Governor Bago’s vision to transform Niger State through robust agricultural investments and infrastructure renewal, ensuring that we improve the livelihoods of our people while contributing to Nigeria’s food security and economic development,” she said.
Governor Bago’s administration has rolled out landmark initiatives in large-scale mechanised farming, irrigation development, value-chain improvement, and rural road rehabilitation, which are enhancing market access for farmers, reducing post-harvest losses, and stimulating local economies across Niger State.
The Blueprint Award further underscores the Governor’s growing reputation as a leader committed to practical, people-centred governance, driving sustainable development, and building an inclusive economy that benefits every resident of Niger State.
