Niger State House of Assembly Calls for Compliance with HYPPADEC Act in Leadership Appointments.
The Niger State House of Assembly has formally urged the Executive Arm of the government and Niger State representatives in the National Assembly to advocate for adherence to the HYPPADEC Act regarding the appointment of the Managing Director of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC).
The call comes following a motion introduced by Hon. Arc. Abubakar Suleiman Gomna, representing the Bosso Constituency, during the assembly’s recent plenary session.
In his motion, Arc. Gomna highlighted a growing public backlash against the recent appointment of an individual from Oyo State as Managing Director of HYPPADEC by the President of Nigeria. This move is perceived as a departure from the stipulations outlined in section 12(2)(a) of the HYPPADEC Act, which mandates that the Managing Director be appointed exclusively from the member states of the Commission, with appointments rotating among them.
The assembly unanimously adopted all resolutions put forward in the motion, emphasizing their role as representatives of the people in advocating for compliance with federal legislation. A resolution will be dispatched to all member states of HYPPADEC and relevant members of the National Assembly.
