Niger to Partner with Federal Mortgage Bank to Address Housing Deficit
Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has stated that his administration will collaborate with the Federal Mortgage Bank and other relevant agencies to tackle the housing deficit in the State.
Governor Bago emphasized the importance of selecting viable sites for housing development to ensure effective service delivery.
Regarding the alleged debts owed to the Bank, he mentioned that his administration had established a sinking fund upon his assuming office to address the outstanding amounts.
While expressing gratitude to the Managing Director of the Bank and his team for their visit, he promised to investigate the details of the debt.
Shehu Usman Osidi, Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, indicated that the bank is eager to strengthen its partnership with the State Government to promote affordable homeownership for Nigerians. He noted that the Bank has financed and delivered over 700 housing units through 12 different housing projects worth N3.7 billion.
Osidi also mentioned that the institution is currently offering two housing projects to the state for outright purchase, aimed at providing immediate housing solutions for the state workforce.
 Additionally, over N2 billion has been disbursed to civil servants through a home renovation loan scheme, benefiting 2,420 individuals.
He highlighted several housing schemes designed to meet the needs of low- and medium-income earners, reaffirming the Institution’s commitment to partnering with Governor Bago’s administration to improve the living standards of the citizens.
