Borno Governor Zulum Claims Politicians and Military Aid Boko Haram, Advocates Comprehensive Security Strategy

From Our Correspondent.

In a recent television interview, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum alleged that certain politicians and military personnel are complicit in leaking sensitive information to Boko Haram. Zulum asserted that by leveraging improved intelligence gathering, his administration aims to combat this issue effectively.

The governor expressed confidence that the insurgency could be resolved within six months, emphasizing the need for both kinetic and non-kinetic measures to address the persistent insecurity in the North East region. “We must strengthen our intelligence and address all collaborators decisively,” he stated.

Zulum criticized the practice of ‘contractocracy’ in security operations, urging that it should not hinder efforts to eliminate terrorism. He noted, “It is vital that we do not politicize insecurity. With the right approach, we can put an end to this madness in a short timeframe.”

Highlighting the importance of non-kinetic strategies, Zulum elaborated on the necessity of addressing the social, political, and economic factors contributing to the insecurity. “Our ongoing initiatives have already shown positive results, aided by the Nigerian military’s support,” he added.

Regarding the issue of repentant fighters, he acknowledged the complexity, stating, “While many of those who have surrendered are genuinely trying to reintegrate, I cannot entirely dismiss the possibility of some returning to violence.” Governor Zulum remains committed to fostering a holistic approach to security challenges in the region.
