Governor Bago Reaffirms Commitment to Establishing State-Owned University of Education.

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the establishment of a State-owned University of Education.
During a recent meeting with a delegation from the Alumni Association of the Niger State College of Education, led by National President Dr. Aminu Yusuf, the Governor emphasized that despite challenges related to space, efforts are underway to realize this educational aspiration.
Governor Bago extended his congratulations to the college, its founders, and its student body as they approach their 50th anniversary. He pledged ongoing support to ensure the institution’s continued success.
In response to the Alumni Association’s proposal to rename the college to Umar Sanda Ahmadu College of Education, Governor Bago indicated that the matter would be discussed by the state Council.
He also assured that other requests falling under the state’s purview would receive consideration.
During the meeting, Dr. Aminu Yusuf expressed gratitude for the Governor’s developmental initiatives in the state, lauding him as a figure of wisdom and community acceptance.
He formally invited the Governor to participate in the college’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebration, scheduled for July 4th and 5th, 2025.
Dr. Yusuf highlighted the college’s legacy as a beacon of academic excellence and community service since its inception.
He further requested the Governor’s support for several initiatives, including the renaming of the institution, endorsement of a dual mandate bill passed by the Niger State House of Assembly, and provision of sponsorship slots for medical-related courses for students of the college.
Additionally, Dr. Usman Bokani Ahmed, the college’s first Provost and one of its founding members, advocated for the acquisition of a separate site for the College of Education, reinforcing its significance as the state’s first tertiary institution.
