House of Assembly Standing Committee on Local government Assures of Non-Witch Hunt Oversight function.

The Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Dr. Alhaji Bello Bako, has assured local government councils that their oversight activities are not intended to be used for witch hunts.
This statement was made during the Committee’s recent oversight visit to the Wushishi and Rafi Local Government Areas, part of an ongoing series of engagements with local governments throughout the state.
During the visit, Hon. Dr. Bako emphasized the constitutional mandate of the House of Assembly to hold accountable any individuals responsible for the management of public funds and resources.
He highlighted that the purpose of these oversight functions is to promote transparency and ensure effective management of local government financial resources.
The Committee Chairman further reiterated that the exercise is not aimed at targeting any individuals and sought the full cooperation of the councils during and after the oversight process.
In addition, the Committee inspected various projects executed by the local government areas to verify compliance with regulations.
In their separate remarks, the Chairmen of Wushishi and Rafi Local Government Areas, Hon. Mohammed Apoti Yelwa and Hon. Usman Ayuba Katako, respectively, expressed their gratitude to the Chairman and Members of the Committee for their visit.
They assured their commitment to implementing the Local Government Procurement Law to enhance the effective management of financial resources within their jurisdictions.
