Kutigi old students association urges Niger state Govt to revamp, prioritise security in public schools

From Our Reporter.

The Kutigi Old Students Association (KUOSA), class of 1984, has challenged the Niger State Government to take urgent action to restore public schools in the state to their former glory.

Abubakar Shaba, Head Boy of the set, made the call during the association’s second reunion meeting to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their graduation from Justice Legbo Kutigi Science College, Kutigi.

The reunion, which held at the Dr. Gambo Hall, College of Education, Minna, was attended by members of the Kutigi Old Students Association (KUOSA).

Abubakar Shaba also called on Niger State government to prioritize school security in public schools to ensure education regains its lost glory.

“We recall the good old days when schools in Niger State were in good shape.

“Unfortunately, over the years, the situation has deteriorated, and the facilities have become a shadow of themselves due to poor maintenance culture,” Shaba said.

He appealed to the state government to provide adequate security for schools and their facilities, citing complaints of vandalism by hoodlums.

Professor Baba Alfa, the deputy head boy of the set, lamented the state of the school they left 40 years ago.

“The school is begging for attention, citing a banditry threat on the school two years ago, which led to its closure.

“We call on the government to prioritize security in schools, especially in the face of the current security challenges bedeviling the state,” Alfa said.

He also disclosed that the association has been supporting the families of their deceased mates.

Alfa further revealed that the Kutigi Old Students Association operates a cooperative where members can obtain loans. “This is part of our efforts to support one another,” he said.

The reunion, which marked the 40th anniversary of the association’s graduation, provided an opportunity for old students to reminisce about their time in school and discuss ways to give back to their alma mater.
