Farmer Gov. Bago honored as ‘Digital Governor of the Year’ at GOVTECH 2024 for Advancing Digital Literacy
The Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago was yesterday bestowed with an award as the Digital Governor of year in the category of Digital Literacy organized by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (Presidency) at the Nigeria GOVTECH Conference & Awards 2024 with the theme: Digital Innovations as A Catalyst for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Niger State Deputy Governor Ummikhaltume Abdullahi Kuta said the Farmer Governor Bago was represented by his Deputy Comrade Yakubu Garba to receive the prestigious award on behalf of the Government and people of Niger State.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor congratulated other recipients at the event and thanked the sponsors, development partners and organizers of the occasion for putting together a remarkable program to honour public service reforms in Nigeria.
The Farmer Governor expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the digital award and promised to continue to encourage the use of technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of governance and service delivery not only in education but also across all sectors of the economy in Niger State.
Niger State has established a Ministry of Communication Technology and Digital Economy and also an Agency for Green Initiatives – the first of its kind at sub-national level.
Comrade Yakubu Garba enumerated some of the achievements of the Bago led administration in Digital Literacy in 2024 to include.
Training of market traders and artisans on the use of technology using Hausa and Pidgin English.
The training of children aged between 10 and 18 in robotics, IoT, and programming.
Collaborated with Tech4dev to train the civil servants in IT skills.
Collaborated with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council to train SMEs on eCommerce to boost exports.
Organised several training programmes for women under the “TechSis” initiative of the State to encourage women participation in technology.
All Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and Special Advisers have been trained for better service delivery using IT.
Journalists have been trained in the use of Open-Source Intelligence to reduce the spread of fake news in the state.
