Abducted Army Varsity Professor Dies in Kidnappers’ Custody
Professor Abubakar Mohammed El-Jummah, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the Nigerian Army University in Biu, Borno State, has died while in captivity of Boko Haram.
The professor was abducted on March 3, 2025, while traveling from Biu to Maiduguri along the Damaturu-Buni Yadi-Biu road.
A funeral prayer was held in absentia at his family’s residence at 2pm on Thursday.
A family member told our correspondent that, according to the insurgents, he fell ill and died after nearly a year in captivity. The family expressed their devastation but proceeded with the funeral prayer.
They also expressed gratitude to the community for their support during this difficult period.
It remains unconfirmed whether the terrorists had demanded any ransom prior to his death.
The funeral service was conducted at the Ngomari Old Airport Juma’at Mosque, near his residence, with hundreds of friends, colleagues, and community members in attendance.
