INSECURITY: IGP Visits Niger ,Calls for United Action to Tackle Security Challenges
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, emphasized the importance of collective efforts in addressing Nigeria’s security issues.
He expressed this during a sympathy visit to Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, following the incident involving missing students from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.
He highlighted that the country faces serious security threats, with Niger State at the center of these growing challenges.
The IGP voiced concern over the boldness of criminal networks, urging an immediate and coordinated response from all stakeholders.
He described the school kidnapping as deeply upsetting and heartbreaking, stating, “Niger State is too important to Nigeria not to give it the priority attention it deserves.”
He reaffirmed that security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police Force, are working diligently to recover the missing children, with 50 already found.
The IGP announced that additional tactical resources have been deployed to the state, along with increased intelligence capabilities to ensure the safe return of the remaining children and their teachers.
He thanked the state government, traditional leaders, and other partners for their ongoing support. He assured that the Nigeria Police Force will not allow the criminals to succeed in their malicious plans.
Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, thanked the IGP and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their quick response in dispatching a rescue team, praising the tactical units of the police.
He also acknowledged the efforts of other security agencies working together to rescue the children and stressed the need for closer collaboration among all involved parties.
The governor shared that more children have been recovered and expressed hope that all will return safely, saying, “No life is worth missing.”
He urged everyone to stay calm and resolute, to keep praying for the nation. He further emphasized that the country’s democracy, sovereignty, and integrity are at risk, underscoring the importance of collective efforts to defend, restore, and guide the nation back toward progress.
