Niger State’s ASUSS Urges Enhanced School Security Following Kebbi Student Abductions

The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Niger State Chapter, has issued an urgent appeal to the state government to strengthen security measures in all secondary schools across the state, amidst recent student abductions in Kebbi State.

In a statement, Salihu Ibrahim Lemu, Chairman of ASUSS, Niger State Chapter, said the union strongly condemned the attack on female students in Kebbi, viewing it as an assault not only on the children but also on education and Nigeria’s future development.

In a detailed appeal, ASUSS urged the Niger State government to deploy trained security personnel, install CCTV cameras and adequate lighting, enforce fencing around schools, and establish rapid-response teams comprising police and community vigilantes.

The union stressed that ensuring school safety extends beyond preventing abductions; it is crucial for protecting future leaders and maintaining access to quality education.

ASUSS conveyed confidence in the government’s commitment to child safety and offered to collaborate on implementing effective security measures.

The union also called for the immediate rescue of all abducted students in Kebbi and extended sympathies to their families.

This situation highlights the urgent need for robust security protocols to protect students and restore public confidence in Nigeria’s education system.
