Niger State Government Takes Significant Step Towards Water Revitalization.

Niger State Government, under the leadership of Farmer Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, has embarked on a mission to improve access to clean water and sanitation in the state, is patterning with the world Bank through the federal ministry of water resources to implement sustainable urban and rural water sanitation and hygiene (SURWASH).
In readiness for it implementation it has engaged the Enviplan consultants to carry out a study of water facilities across the state in order to identify challenges, and proffer solution .
To take ownership of the project a two-day validation workshop, was held at Al-Zahra Hotel in Minna, with the Niger State government, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, and Nigeria Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) project which is funded by the World Bank.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources and Dams Development, Akilu Musa Kuta emphasized the importance of the project in achieving the state’s water supply objectives which are aimed to validate the project’s reports and findings, and to take a significant step towards improving access to clean water and sanitation in the state.
Akilu Musa Kuta explained that the state government’s commitment to water revitalization is evident in its collaboration with international partners like the World Bank, therefore the project’s success is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of residents, particularly in underserved communities.
He also said the validation workshop marks a significant milestone in the project’s journey, stating that the next step is to finalize the project’s reports and implement the recommendations to improve access to clean water and sanitation in Niger State.
Earlier the lead team consultant’s Dr measheal Alfa Report, highlighted gaps in water supply and proposes solutions aligned with the new Niger agenda, where he stated that the SURWASH project, which is funded by the World Bank, is a $700 million loan to the federal government, with a $640 million technical assistance component, stating that the aims is to improve water supply, sanitation, and hygiene in Niger State, therefore
the validation workshop for the project brought together stakeholders to validate the project’s reports and findings.
He also noted that the team collected and analyzed data, generated reports, and presented them to stakeholders for validation.
Also some of the participants at the validation workshop agenda stated that the projects’ implementation is expected to bring numerous benefits to the state’s residents, including increased access to clean water, improved sanitation, and hygiene.
