Abdulkadir Kure University: Nigeria’s Fastest Growing Public University, Says Vice Chancellor.

By Yahaya Zakka Minna.

Professor Mohammed Aliyu Paiko, Vice Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University (AKUM), has proclaimed the institution as the fastest growing public university in Nigeria.

This statement was made during a courtesy visit from the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Council at his office in Minna on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

Professor Paiko revealed that the university, which commenced operations with approximately 100 students in 2024, has now grown to over 700 enrolled students, with additional registrations underway as the institution continues its trajectory towards excellence.

In line with the university’s expansion policy, the Vice Chancellor noted that more than 3,500 applicants have already expressed interest in the 2025/2026 academic session.

He emphasized the university’s emerging role as a hub of entrepreneurship, particularly in the realm of specialized education.

Highlighting collaborative efforts, Professor Paiko mentioned the Abdulkadir Kure Centre for Basic and Professional Studies and the GreenTech ICT Hub Initiative, which invite partnerships with professional bodies, including media organizations.

During the visit, Comrade Abu Nmodu, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, reaffirmed the NUJ’s commitment to strengthening the collaboration between the two organizations.

He emphasized the media’s essential role in informing and educating the public and shared that the NUJ is offering educational courses on media and journalism through the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) at the IBB Pen House in Minna.

Comrade Nmodu assured the Vice Chancellor and university management of the union’s ongoing support to help the institution achieve its objectives.
