Prayers Essential for Nigeria’s Unity, Says General Babangida at 84th Birthday Celebration.
General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Nigeria’s former military president, emphasized the importance of prayer for the country’s unity during his 84th birthday celebration.
He made these remarks while receiving the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger state chapter, led by Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, at his residence in Minna.
General Babangida expressed gratitude for the prayers offered by the Christian community, proclaiming that the collective prayers of Christians and Muslims are fundamental to the nation’s resilience. “I appreciate your prayers,” he stated. “They have been very effective in keeping the country together.”
He urged religious leaders to continue fostering harmonious relations between faiths, stressing that such unity is vital for Nigeria’s development. “Maintain this relationship for the betterment of our country. The unity and existence of Nigeria lie in the hands of Christians and Muslims,” he added.
The State Chairman of CAN, Bishop Yohanna, acknowledged General Babangida’s influential life and enduring legacy, highlighting his remarkable contributions across various sectors of society.
In his remarks, represented by State Vice Chairman Rev. Joshua Markus, Bishop Yohanna prayed for the former president’s continued good health and fulfillment.
The gathering concluded with a special prayer from the CAN members, asking for blessings and a prosperous year ahead for Nigeria.
