JSS3 student allegedly beats teacher to death

A Junior Secondary School 3 student allegedly beat his teacher to death during a confrontation over a seized school cap in Benue State.

The incident occurred on Thursday, July 10, 2025, in the Oju Local Government Area. According to reports, the suspect, identified as 16-year-old Friday Ogamude, a student at UBE Oju Centre, confronted his teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, who is 35 years old, regarding a cap that had been confiscated since May 2025.

The confrontation escalated rapidly when the student allegedly struck the teacher during a heated exchange. The teacher reportedly collapsed on the spot and was immediately rushed to Amara Hospital in Oju, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

The body of the deceased has been photographed and deposited at the General Hospital in Oju for an autopsy, while investigations into the incident are ongoing. The police have confirmed the arrest of the suspect and condemned the act, assuring the public that justice will be served.
