Rebuttal: ALGON, Sokoto State Dissociates Self from Calls for Nomination of Sen. Wamakko as VP in 2027
The Sokoto State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has dissociated itself from the recent call by one of its members for the potential nomination of Sen.:Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District at the Senate as the APC Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
According to the Association, the call made by its Secretary and Executive Chairman of Kebbe Local Government of the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Yarima, was entirely his personal opinion.
The State Chairman of ALGON and Executive Chairman, Tambuwal Local Government, Alhaji Abba Shehu Tambuwal said in a statement in Sokoto on Sunday.
He said, “Our dear colleague and the Chairman of Kebbe LGA, who is also our Scribe, just voiced out his personal opinion and not that of our Association. Although he is entitled to his opinion just like any other citizen of the country, he was on his own in this matter.”
“The recent claim by Alhaji Abdullahi Yarima, alluding to Sen. Aliyu Wamakko’s aspiration for the Vice Presidency in 2027, is baseless and lacks credibility.
“Sen. Wamakko has not publicly expressed interest in the position, and it’s premature to speculate about his intentions.
“ALGON in Sokoto State, is therefore, humbly urging caution against unfounded speculations and emphasizing the importance of verifying information before making public statements.
“The people of Sokoto State and Nigeria at large deserve accurate and responsible reporting.
“We kindly appeal to our colleagues to refrain from making such comments henceforth, more so, on crucial national issues like the matter at hand.”
ALGON also said that it is important to stress that the Association has its appropriate channel of communication in the event of any issue or matter that it needs to intimate the general public.
“Consequently, we are calling on the members of the public to disregard the story as ALGON has not vetted it and has nothing to do with it,” Alhaji Abba Shehu Tambuwal stated.
