Forum of former National, State Assembly Members Endorse Governor Bago for Second Term

The forum of former parliamentarians comprising members of national and state assembly from Niger state have unanimously endorsed the state governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago for second term in office, and have vowed to work vigorously to ensure his re-election at the poll come 2027.
The forum said the governor had in the last two years in office, redefined governance in the state and have provided leadership with his landmark transformation of all sphere of human development, hence the decision to endorse him ahead of the 2027 election in the state.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the governor on communication, media and strategy, Hon. Jonathan Vatsa quoted the forum as saying that the endorsement of the governor was part of the resolutions reached after its inaugural meeting held at the conference hall of the state house of assembly which was presided over by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji on Monday.
The meeting of the former parliamentarians, according to Vatsa was chaired by a former Member, House of Representatives, representing Agaie/Lapai federal constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Ebbo and had in attendance, all former national and state assembly members from the state.
The forum pointed out that as former lawmakers they have debated passionately, legislated wisely, and guarded democracy jealously, stressing that their experiences and collective wisdom are invaluable assets in shaping the political atmosphere of the state and therefore will work to ensure the re-election of the governor to finish the work he has started.
According the chairman of the forum, the coming together of the former parliamentarians will serves as a platform for intellectual and experienced minds to contribute meaningfully to the state and national development, adding that “We will offer mentorship, policy insight and moral guidance to current and future leaders”.
The forum further pointed out that it is imperative to note that the Governor, as a former ranking member of the National Assembly where he made indelible legislative marks in the annals of history has not disappointed the parliamentarians since he assumed office as the Executive Governor since may 29th 2023.
“Today, as the Governor of Niger State, he has made tremendous developmental strides in reshaping the socio-economic indices of Niger State.
“It is on record that the harmonious working relationship between the Executive and the legislature in the state is as a result of legislative and administrative experience of the Governor and the understanding and technical knowledge of the legislators as led by the versatile Speaker, Rt Hon. Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, the speaker of the 10th assembly”.
My Hon colleagues, there is no gainsaying the fact that the Governor is redirecting developmental cause of Niger State in his massive Agricultural revolution, which stands out to the admiration of everyone in this county today.
“Indeed the road construction across the length and breadth of State remains a thing of joy to every Nigerlite as we have not witnessed this in the history of Niger State.
“What else can we say about the Governor who assidously is doing everything humanly possible to improve every facet of our lives other than to appreciate and identify with his laudable initiatives towards attaining his New Niger Agenda”, adding that indeed they are proud of his achievements so far and therefore urged the people to support him and allowed him to finish the work he has started.
The forum assured that “As former lawmakers we remain committed to contributing to Niger States’ progress. We equally pledged to support initiatives that promote unity, development, and good governance”, it added.
The forum later paid a courtesy call on the Governor at the government house where he (Governor) thanked them for their support towards his administration in the last two years and assured them that his administration’s New Niger Agenda is not just a mere slogan but a vision to transform the state to an enviable level of development.
Bago described the legislative arm of the government is an integral part of democracy that contribute to build a better society and therefore appreciated the lawmakers for coming together as one regardless of part differences, saying that the endorsement means a lot to him.
He told the former parliamentarians that his agricultural revolution programme has won the state an international recognition with the influx of investor into the state ready to partner with government in diverse areas.
The Governor promised that his administration will not betray the trust bestowed on him by the forum assuring them that all ongoing projects will be completed before the end of his administration.
