Niger State House of Assembly Approves ₦70 Billion Bond Request by Governor Bago.

From Our Correspondent

The Niger State House of Assembly has officially approved a request presented by the Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, for a ₦70 billion bond aimed at financing critical infrastructure projects within the state.

This decision was reached following the presentation of a detailed report by the Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Finance, Hon. Aliyu Sheshi Wushishi, representing Wushishi Constituency.

In his presentation, Hon. Wushishi highlighted that the committee’s comprehensive review and engagement with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Finance, the Niger State Planning Commission, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, and the Debt Management Office, indicated that the bond issuance is part of a broader ₦100 billion NCNI Private Bond Issuance plan spread over ten years.

The Assembly members unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation and approved the requested bond.

Following the approval, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, instructed the Clerk of the House, Mall. Farouq Umar Isah, to formally transmit the approval to the Executive.

In a separate matter, the House also enacted legislation to establish the Niger State Sports Commission, a measure intended to advance sports development and generate employment opportunities.

This Bill was sponsored by the House Standing Committee on Sports Development, chaired by Hon. Ndagi Zakari.

Furthermore, the House directed the Standing Committee on Transport to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including the Niger State Internal Revenue Service and the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, to address the increasing issue of counterfeit vehicle and motorcycle license plates and documentation in the state.

As the session concluded, Speaker Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji commended the members for their diligent efforts and subsequently adjourned the House for a recess, with plans to resume on June 24, 2025.
