Gunmen Shoot Lawyer and Client After Court Session in Anambra

Tension gripped residents of the Agulu and Nanka communities in the Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State when unidentified assailants shot and killed a lawyer and his client after a court session.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers carried out the brutal killings without facing any opposition. The circumstances surrounding this gruesome murder remain unclear, but it is reported that the lawyer had been in court with his client earlier in the day and was killed moments after they were followed from the courthouse.
One of the sources stated,The incident occurred at the boundary between Nanka and Agulu, along the popular Amawbia-Agulu-Nanka-Ekwulobia-Uga-Akokwa road in the early hours of Thursday.
“The assailants first shot and killed the lawyer before shooting his client, who attempted to escape by running from the car. The assailants immediately fled the scene.”
When contacted for comment, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that the police have launched a full investigation.
He also noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, visited the crime scene alongside a team of senior officers.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the victims were attacked while returning from the court session, having been trailed and ambushed by the assailants.
“The CP led a team of senior officers—including the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations and experienced detectives—on a visit to the crime scene at Egbebelu village in Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area, where two individuals were brutally murdered by unidentified armed men on a motorcycle.
“The visit followed reports of the murders, one of the victims being a legal practitioner who had recently secured the bail of an accused person in a pending murder case at High Court II in Ekwulobia.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were attacked while returning from the court session after being trailed and double-crossed by the assailants.
“One of the victims survived the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.
This individual has been interviewed by the police and provided crucial information that is aiding ongoing investigations and manhunt operations.
“The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and positively identified by their families. During the preliminary investigations, a red Toyota Camry believed to belong to one of the deceased was recovered from the scene.”
Ikenga confirmed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered an intensive investigation into the incident and deployed tactical and intelligence teams to track down the perpetrators to ensure justice is served.
“Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” he added.
