MHWUN Chairman hosts members at reception to celebrate workers’ day, promises adequate members welfare

From Our Correspondent

The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) in Niger State hosted a reception for its members to celebrate International Workers’ Day in Minna.

The event brought together health workers from across the state to commemorate their contributions to the healthcare system at the union’s secretariat in Minna.

The state Chairman of MHWUN, Comrade Usman Abubakar Dabban, emphasised the importance of upholding professionalism in their work.

“Health workers are supposed to be game-changers in the system, we commend our members for keeping to our expectations.

The MHWUN chairman reaffirmed the union’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its members.

“We have been working tirelessly to ensure that our members enjoy the welfare they are expecting from us,” he said.

He emphasised the importance of adhering to the ethics of their profession, highlighting the critical role health workers play in the healthcare system.

Dabban advised members to take their work seriously, respecting the ethics of their profession.

He said the union encompasses members from the 25 local government areas and has 30 branches in the state.

According to him, we have been working tirelessly to ensure that our members enjoy the welfare they are expecting from us and will continue to prioritise welfare of our members.

Dabban thanked the Gov. Umaru Bago and his Deputy, Yakubu Garba for their support to health workers in the state.

He revealed that the deputy governor when he was the chairman of MHWUN built the union’s hall and it would be commissioned soon.

Dabban commended the state government for paying the minimum wage but called for an increase to 150% minimum wage for health workers due to the hazardous nature of their jobs.

Earlier in his remarks, Comrade Aminu Yusuf, Special Adviser to Niger governor on Labour Matters, said the event was a day labour leaders gathered to take stock of their achievements, consolidate on them, and identify new challenges, so that they can open a new chapter in preparation to address these changes.
