Niger State House of Assembly Engages Healthcare Directors to Enhance Service Delivery
In a proactive effort to strengthen the healthcare system in Niger State, the Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Health, Nutrition, and Primary Healthcare, Hon. Pharm. Umar Nasir, convened a vital interface with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as Medical Directors from key Secondary Healthcare facilities.
This significant meeting took place at the Assembly Complex in Minna, emphasizing the Committee’s commitment to oversight and improvement within the healthcare sector.
Hon. Pharm. Umar Nasir underscored that the initiative was designed not to criticize but rather to collaborate with healthcare facilities to identify areas for enhancement in service delivery.
Medical Directors from prominent General Hospitals, including Wushishi, Kagara, Bangi, Tungan Magajiya, Kontagora, and New Bussa, took part in the discussions.
The Committee undertook a thorough review of essential documents, focusing on:
– Laboratory and pharmacy records
– Financial transaction bank statements and receipts
– National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) reports
– Relevant operational documents spanning the past six months (October 2024 – March 2025)
During the interface, Dr. Ndagi Umar, Medical Director of General Hospital Wushishi and Secretary of all Medical Directors in Niger State, articulated several pressing challenges faced by the general hospitals, including prolonged lack of operating funds, insufficient diesel supply for generators, and acute manpower shortages.
He expressed appreciation for Hon. Pharm. Umar Nasir and the Committee’s initiative, highlighting the importance of transparency and collaboration in addressing these issues.
In response, Pharm. Nasir reaffirmed the Committee’s determination to partner with healthcare facilities to tackle these challenges head-on and ultimately enhance the healthcare landscape in the State.
